io awarded Athos CCUS project concept study

Apr 06 2020

io consulting has been awarded a concept select study by the Athos consortium to support their review of options for CO2 transportation and storage from industrial CO2 emitters in the region of the Noordzeekanaal (North Sea Canal), Netherlands.

The Athos consortium comprises Gasunie New Energy, EBN, Port of Amsterdam and Tata Steel.

io will support an evaluation of transportation infrastructure required to gather the CO2 from emitters and deliver to offshore depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. This study will consider re-use of existing hydrocarbon infrastructure, the requirement for new pipelines, the pumping and compression requirements and potentially marine transportation of liquid CO2 to the offshore storage site(s).

“io is really pleased to have been selected by the Athos project for this important study and we are looking forward to building a long term working relationship with the project partners," said Richard Dyson, io’s CEO. "CO2 Capture, Utilisation, Transport and Storage is a cornerstone of our Energy Transition Practice”
