FLSmidth joins Carbon Capture collaboration with Chart Industries

Sep 12 2021

The companies have signed a collaboration agreement to implement carbon capture technology and reduce CO2 emissions from cement production.

The Danish engineering company said the collaboration will see the two companies join efforts to adapt and commercialize Chart's cryogenic carbon capture technology for customers in the cement industry.

Cryogenic carbon capture is a post-combustion technology developed by Chart subsidiary Sustainable Energy Solutions that uses equipment manufactured by Chart and its affiliates to capture CO2 from exhaust gas and process it as a liquid ready for storage and use.

Working with Chart, FLSmidth said it will accelerate the commercialization of carbon capture technology and optimize the design of the technology for the cement industry, aiming to reduce over 90% of carbon emissions from industrial sources at half the cost and energy of current carbon capture processes.

Cement production represents 7%-8% of global CO2 emissions.
