Part of the Smiths Group, it is supplying advanced dry gas sealing technology for high-performance CO2 compression.

John Crane is delivering six Type 28XP Dry Gas Seals for use in centrifugal compressors at a new CO2 compression facility located in North Wales. These compressors are a key part of the infrastructure required to transport and permanently store carbon dioxide captured from industrial plants across the North West of England and North Wales.

The CCS facility will serve as a critical enabler of the UK’s energy transition, acting as a central hub for CO2 transportation and storage under the seabed in depleted offshore fields. With the project recently reaching financial close, it marks a major step forward in delivering low-carbon infrastructure to support industrial decarbonisation.

John Crane’s Type 28XP Dry Gas Seals are engineered for the rigorous demands of CO2 and supercritical CO2 applications - proven performance in harsh operating environments made them the sealing solution of choice for this high-impact CCS initiative.

“This project reinforces John Crane’s commitment to advancing the energy transition through reliable engineering,” said Philippe Lambert, Vice President, Sales and Aftermarket. “We’re honoured to support this landmark development with our proven sealing technologies, helping to accelerate industrial decarbonisation in the UK and beyond.”

John Crane brings decades of experience in sealing technologies for CO2 and sCO2 compression. The company continues to play a central role in the deployment of CCS infrastructure globally helping industry reduce emissions and improving operational performance.
